Flashback to November 2006. I buythe DVD of Clerks 2. Great movie. I put in the disc & trailers start. I was in the middle of other stuff so I didnt get a chance to hit "Menu" right away like I normally do. This trailer starts & looks like a bit of Geek Comedy about Star Wars fans but it actually looks funny. The trailers ends & it has the title "Fanboys" & says "Coming Soon". Immediately I'm psyched. I love the trailer & think "This is for me, the real fans." For those uninitiated, the movie follows a group of die hard Star Wars fans on their quest to steal a copy of "Star Wars Episode 1- The Phantom Menace" 6 months before it opens because one of them is dying of cancer & only has 3-4 months to live. Along the way, they meet a unique cast of characters & get help with this plot. Of course they have their run-ins with the enemy. Yes, you got it- Trekkies. But I'm getting away from my point. After 2 years of it being pushed back, additional shooting, editing to remove the cancer plot, protests by fans, putting the cancer plot back in, finally its here. It was NOT disappointing. I loved it from beginning to end. The cancer plot was only mentioned a few times so I dont why all the fuss was made. The only mild disappointment was one line from the trailer that I've watched over & over wasnt there. The scene at the Halloween party when 3 of the friends come in as Vader & 2 Stormtroopers, Vader says "Are those pigs in blankets?" Here, the movie starts, its the Halloween party scene, Vader & the Stormtroopers come in, take off their helmets & go & sit down. I'm sitting in my chair confused. But other than one little thing, it was excellent! I cant wait to watch it again & I cant wait for the DVD to check out some deleted scenes.
