I would have thought music on there would have been a good advert for the songs.

I explained this before that its good FREE publicity for the artist & the TV show/movie/whatever. People might search for a show or movie & find this video-- an artist they never heard. They watch it, they like it, they buy the CD. It works in reverse too. People search for an artist, find a video for a show or movie. They watch, they like, they watch & buy. Everybodys happy & making money except for the poor schmuck that made the video.

That's why I thought everybody would be happy. Has anybody ever explained otherwise? Like, why they don't like their music on there?

I dont know. Their music is there. Its all over the place there. I dont what difference it makes that I put in a video with tv or movie footage.

How do they spot it out of the millions of videos anyway?

They have a recognition program that somehow can tell if a song is theirs or not... I have a CD from a local (unsigned) artist and I'm using it to do a couple of vids, but it's not the same...I liked it when I could have a creative idea and go through with it and put it on Youtube...just makes me mad. It's great publicity, too. I know of a musician (Amanda Palmer, formerly of the Dresden Dolls) who said on her blog that she wouldn't even see the $$ if WMG (Warner Music Group) started charging people to use Youtube...
